The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (2015) drawn up by the Department for Education and Department of Health operates within the school.
There is a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCO) and a Special Educational Needs Governor.
The SENDCO regularly reviews with other staff, children who have been identified as having a special need. Class teachers have formal meetings with parents at least once a term, to report on the progress of their child and an Educational Support Plan (ESP) is used to track progress over time. At this meeting future needs are discussed with parents and noted on the ESP. The children are registered on the SEND Record.
It may be necessary for some children to have an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which will be drawn up in consultation with outside professionals, parents, the child and the school.
